Oil Patch Truckers for Safety

2011 Safety Fair

Community Action Partnership of Dickinson and Southwest Coalition of Safe Communities are partnering with businesses to fund an educational safety event for oil patch truckers. The event will include education, lunch, snacks, and door prizes.

Planned activities:

• HazMat fingerprinting Information
• Drug dog demonstrations
• Distracted and impaired driving activities
• Featuring the remote controlled SImulated DriviNg Experience
• Other information and activity booths by area safety organizations

Invited presentations:

• Road safety and restrictions
• Permit procedures
• Standardized Field Sobriety Testing for alcohol and drugs
• Recent changes to trucking regulations (e.g. CSA2010)
• Multi-county permit system

Sponsorship Opportunities are available. Sponsors making more than a $500.00 tax-deductable donation will receive benefits that include booth space, recognition at the event, and logo placement on all print materials and marketing efforts. Sponsors making less than a $500.00 tax deductable donation will receive free booth space at the event.

To ensure your organization will be included in the marketing campaign, we will need to receive your commitment no later than August 5, 2011.

Dickinson MasterMinds Network

DLN is working with the Center for Technology and Business, ND Women’s Business Center, and Dickinson’s Regional Small Business Development Center to coordinate and provide educational sessions to the members of Dickinson’s MasterMinds Network.

Dickinson’s MasterMind’s network is still in its infancy of development. The program efforts are dedicated to providing support and leadership to woman business owners. The goal of the program is to allow women business owners the opportunity to discuss business related issues within a group of their peers.

Many types of businesses are involved in the Master Minds network. Currently, Dickinson’s network provides support to woman business owners in Beach, Belfield, Bowman, Killdeer, Mott, and Rhame. The objectives in serving these women business owners are to:

  • Enhance expansion and succession planning skills
  • Provide opportunities for women to support each other’s business through direct purchase, co-marketing, or technical and collaborative assistance
  • Women to Women and e-marketing opportunities to market their products, goods, and services
  • Assess technology and other training needs for woman-owned businesses across the region

 Through participation woman business owners are able to:

  • Expand their customer bases through increased visibility among other woman-owned businesses
  • Gather tools to prepare for business maintenance and/or expansion
  • Plan for profitable sale of their businesses through appropriate succession planning
  • Identify key methods of using social media to improve their market and customer outreach

Deb Nelson to present at the Great Plains Young Professionals Summit

June 16, 2011

Deb Nelson will be presenting at the Great Plains Young Professionals Summit taking place on June 15th, 16th and 17th in Fargo, ND. The Summit is sponsored by the Chamber of Fargo Moorhead and West Fargo and the North Dakota Young Professionals Network. The Summit is an annual event that allows hundreds of young professionals to come together to grow their skills, network with other young professionals, and learn how to influence their community.

 

Deb’s presentation is titled “The Young Professional & Rural Values: A Cultural Clash” which will talk about the importance of cultural understanding between young professionals coming to work in rural communities where they are highly needed, and the rural communities and the local people. Deb will also touch on the influence of one’s cultural background on their attitude and the difficulties that naturally come when working in rural communities.

 

Join Deb to learn how to survive the cultural clash with a successful rural life experience.

Strom Center's 11th Annual Entrepreneurship Conference

Deb Nelson to lead a workshop about improving Boards of Directors
April 7, 2011

 

The Strom Center will be hosting its eleventh annual Strom Entrepreneurship Conference, which aims to inspire and encourage the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Join Deb Nelson as she talks about what it takes for organizations to make sure their boards of directors implement success strategies, rather than practice survival skills from year to year.

Conference registration starts at 8 a.m. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:40 p.m. at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge in Dickinson, ND. A networking social will follow from 4:40 – 6 p.m.
